🎻 1. DelFest

📍Cumberland, Maryland
🕘 Gates: Thursday, May 22 at 10 am

Bluegrass has been quietly staging a full-blown takeover, and DelFest is at the heart of it. Curated by Del McCoury himself (yes, that Del), this fest blends traditional roots with fresh energy from modern trailblazers like Sierra Ferrell, The Wood Brothers, Railroad Earth, and Leftover Salmon. Think gorgeous harmonies, jaw-dropping solos, and a dance floor that looks more like a backyard hoedown than a sweaty pit.

Set against the lush mountains of western Maryland, DelFest hits that sweet spot between world-class music and down-home charm. It’s a family-friendly affair too, but don’t mistake that for sleepy because there’s plenty of late-night pickin’, campsite jams, and legendary collaborations that have fans swapping stories for years.

Pro Tip: Whether you’re line-dancing or lawn-chair lounging, the Clutchloop keeps your phone in reach. Perfect for navigating vendor rows or quick access to capture a surprise Del + Billy Strings duet (it could happen).

🌠 2. Dark Star Jubilee

📍Legend Valley, Thornville, Ohio
🕘 Gates: VIP Friday, May 23 at 10 am | GA at 12 noon

Dark Star Jubilee is pure jam magic. Curated by Dark Star Orchestra, this is the spot where improvisation reigns and setlists stretch far beyond what any schedule can predict. Hosted at Ohio’s legendary Legend Valley (a true sacred space in festival lore), the lineup leans deep into the jam and jam-adjacent world: moe., Warren Haynes, Melvin Seals & JGB, Daniel Donato… basically a who’s-who of cosmic cowboys and psych-funk astronauts.

Unlike massive mega-fests, Jubilee keeps it intimate without skimping on talent. The campground transforms into a mini city of colorfully decorated tents, flow arts, and late-night glow that doesn’t fade. Plus, there’s something special about Ohio’s early summer air, thick with nostalgia and anticipation, like the music knows something you don’t yet.

Gear Tip: These jams go deep, like, “Was that the same song or five different ones?” deep. Protect your ears without dulling the magic with a pair of Vibes Earplugs. They lower the volume, not the vibe. Perfect for riding the sonic wave all weekend long.

🐔 3. RoosterWalk 15

📍Pop’s Farm, Martinsville, Virginia
🕘 Gates: 9 am every morning

If your ideal weekend sounds like a perfect blend of funk, folk, and fields, then RoosterWalk at Pop’s Farm is calling your name. Celebrating its 15th year, this gem in southern Virginia leans into eclectic Americana vibes with just enough weirdness to keep things spicy. With Lettuce bringing the funk, a full roster of string magic, and the serene backdrop of rolling hills, RoosterWalk feels like a summer camp for your inner groove monster.

This one flies under the radar, but that’s part of the charm. You’re more likely to catch a band member joining a jam at the beer tent or helping with a workshop than you are to see massive barricades or influencer photo ops. It’s unpretentious, musical, and full of moments that make you whisper “Did that really just happen?”

What to Pack: Warm days, cool nights, grassy naps, and stage-hopping mean comfort is key. The Moonmat isn’t just for sleeping, it’s your festival floor, yoga mat, cloud pillow, and mid-day recharge station. Don’t leave camp without it.

🎸 4. StrangeCreek Campout

📍Greenfield, Massachusetts
🕘 Gates: Thursday (extra fee). Early entry at 3 pm (pre-party, additional $40 per person. Cash only at gate.) Friday at 8 am

Nicknamed by yours truly as “the most family-friendly festival this side of the Mississippi,” StrangeCreek Campout has built its rep on being a heartfelt, grassroots gathering that never tries to be anything it’s not. Hosted deep in the New England woods, this fest feels like a reunion, even if it’s your first time. Max Creek is the anchor, but the lineup spills over with jam bands, regional favorites, and stage surprises that keep the groove going ‘til sunrise.

Off-stage, expect artisan vendors, drum circles, workshops, and a real sense of shared spirit among both families and festie veterans. It’s less about spectacle and more about community. It’s the kind of place where kids can dance barefoot and adults rediscover why they fell in love with festivals in the first place.

Camp Must-Haves: StrangeCreek mornings can be brisk and the nights brisker. Keep the good times cozy with a Baja Hoodie and one of our Blankets, ideal for hammock hangs, fireside chats, or impromptu cuddle puddles.

⚡ 5. Lightning in a Bottle

📍Buena Vista Lake, California
🕘 Gates: Wednesday 12–11pm, Thurs–Sat 10am–11pm, Sun 10am–6pm

Lightning in a Bottle isn’t just a festival, it’s an ecosystem of expression. This year marks its 21st birthday. From its early days as a wild birthday bash to now being one of the most iconic transformational festivals in the U.S., LIB continues to evolve while keeping its soul intact.

Expect a mind-bending blend of electronic beats, yoga sessions, immersive art, Khruangbin’s smooth vibes, and some of the most stylish festie fashion on the circuit. With stages that look like Burning Man kissed a spaceship and a lake to cool off in when things get extra, this is your place to stretch, sweat, and soar.

Pack Like a Pro: When dancing turns into grounding, you’ll be glad you brought a MoonMat. And if your inner child needs extra comfort. Baja layers are your best friend come desert dusk.

🎤 6. Boston Calling

📍Harvard Athletic Complex, Boston, MA
🕘 Gates: Friday–Sunday, 1pm–11pm

We don’t say this lightly: Boston Calling might win the prize for “most chaotic-good lineup of the year.” Luke Combs and Sheryl Crow headline the same weekend as T-Pain, Fall Out Boy, and Avril freaking Lavigne. Throw in Dave Matthews Band and you’ve basically covered three decades of musical nostalgia and/or tears.

Boston Calling is urban, polished, and massive. Think massive crowd energy, food trucks that go hard, and merch lines that rival the main stage. It’s the perfect spot for both your festival first-timer friends and your “I saw DMB in ‘96” uncles.

Stay Hands-Free: With all those stage hops and chicken tenders to hold, the ClutchLoop is essential. Consider it your weekend MVP.

🍷 7. BottleRock Napa Valley

📍Napa, California
🕘 Typically opens around 11:30am daily (Fri–Sun)

BottleRock is where music meets wine country, and honestly, it slays. Nestled in Napa Valley’s wine-soaked bliss, this is the fest for those who want equal parts groove and gourmet. The lineup always delivers across genres (past years include everyone from Metallica to Lizzo), but the real secret sauce is the culinary stage, where celebrity chefs and artists team up for performances that are equal parts cooking show and chaotic good energy.

Crowds here skew a little more “elevated picnic” than “muddy mosh,” so expect sun hats, rosé spritzers, and very stylish sunglasses. Still, the music packs a punch, and when those golden hour sets hit, whew, Napa knows how to glow.

BottleRock Hack: For this one, bring a Blanket for the grassy wine-sipping sets and stash your Vibes Earplugs  to stay classy and protect your hearing. Good times don’t have to be loud times.

🎶 8. Cave Jam

📍The Caverns, Pelham, Tennessee
🕘 Gates: Fri 4–9pm (early entry), Sat 9am–9pm, Sun 12–7pm
Venue: 2pm Sat & Sun

The Caverns are a legendary venue in their own right, but Cave Jam takes it to a whole new layer (literally). String Cheese Incident and Infamous Stringdusters lead a lineup that’s heavy on jam and deeper than your average cave pun. With a blend of above-ground revelry and underground acoustics, this one’s all about sonic exploration and Appalachian soul.

Plus, bonus tip: there’s a zipline course nearby that’s worth the detour. We know from experience. 😉

What to Pack: Temps drop underground, so stay cozy with a Baja. For daytime festing, bring a Blanket you won’t mind dancing or napping on mid-set.

🌅 Pack Light, Dance Hard, and Fest Like a Legend

Whether you’re jamming in the Appalachian foothills, raving in the California sun, or sipping wine between main stage sets, this Memorial Day Weekend is absolutely stacked. These eight festivals offer something for everyone: music lovers, foodies, flow artists, campground philosophers, and everyone in between.

No matter where you end up, make sure you’re geared up with the Mr. B-approved essentials, Moon Mats, Bajas, ClutchLoops, and Vibes  Earplugs. Because while we can’t stop time (yet), we can help you stay cozy, connected, and sunburn-free while you’re making memories that last way longer than your phone battery.
